Affectionately known as BYB to everyone who has made themselves a regular at this spot, Backyard Bistro is a top place for a fun night out.
The music is loud, the crowd is casual, and everyone roars to hear each other as the music gets louder and louder over the course of the night. The drinks are on the cheap side too, with a happy hour that goes from noon to midnight and gets you 50 percent off selected mixed drinks, hops and grape.
Inside there’s a dark, glimmering atmosphere with furniture that’s been recycled from tyres, oil canisters, motorcycles and more. The bathroom playfully uses petrol nozzles and a gas pedal to pump water at the sink, and you’ll find new details to look at every time you go. The décor definitely adds to the vibes, but it’s the people who are grooving in their chairs, throwing their hands up when requested, and celebrating each weekend that make this place special.
The food is classic bar grub, and while nothing is a standout, you can’t go wrong ordering one of the burgers or a basket of fries to share with the table (the basket comes with regular, curly, and sweet potato fries, the dream for fans of the spuds).
On Wednesdays and Thursdays you’ll catch DJ Fab spinning a mix of pop, hip-hop and R&B just be sure you’re ready to lose your voice if you want to have a conversation at your table.
Is it strange to walk through World Trade Center Mall on your way to a night out? A little. But “a little strange” is the overall feeling at BYB, and that’s what makes it so charming.
