There really are no shortage of places to go for a night out or for a quiet drink in Abu Dhabi.
You can take your pick from the fanciest mixed drink bars in five star hotels to humble pubs serving up pints of hops and comfort food to fill your stomach.
Now, we know what you’re thinking, Jazz@Pizza Express might not be the first place you’d think of when heading out for a drink but there are plenty of reasons why the Abu Dhabi branch is well worth your time.
Normally there’s a great live band, and while that is taking a backseat for the time being, there are other reasons to head along.
Mainly, we’re talking about the outdoor terrace that makes the most of the winter months and enjoys amazing views over downtown Abu Dhabi. We don’t know about you but we enjoy looking down on the city from a cool vantage point.
Look down and the busy city streets are filled with people coming and going weaving in and out of the maze of buildings stretching as far as the eye can see.
Look up and you’ve got the World Trade Center towers, giant silver skyscrapers, one of which is the tallest in the city.
As far as cool settings go, this place is a real winner.
When we arrive on a weekend in the early evening we make our way to the terrace to take in those views. The place is pretty busy too with families enjoying a bite to eat, the post-brunch crowd already winding down and a few tables like ourselves just starting the night off with a few drinks.
There are some great mixed drinks on offer so that’s exactly what we decide to order.
First up, two signature mixed drinks arrive. They are well balanced, and we set about putting the world to rights. Deciding to have another drink while we debate whether or not to order a few nibbles to eat, we decide to up the ante and order espresso-based mixed beverages this time.
The vibe is chilled, the weather perfect, the views enjoyable and the prices competitive.
There’s a lot to love about this place. Sure, we’d love to hear the live band but we’ll just have to come back for that sometime in the future.
