Porters English Pub

Review: Lively venue brings traditional English pub vibes to the capital

Have you ever been left with the funny feeling you’ve travelled thousands of miles in just a matter of steps?
It’s not a common experience, admittedly, but it is one we encounter as we travel down the Grand Millennium Al Wahda hotel stairway and swing open the doors to Porters English Pub.

Greeted by rows of wooden tables, cozy booths with stain-glassed windows and low-key lighting, we could easily be in a British watering-hole.

We quickly find this is a fine replica of the traditional pub from back home, too, as the venue boasts a generous number of screens, with live Premier League football action given the priority during the weekends.

The pub is set over two levels, but you’ll find most of the crowds huddled around those screens on the spacious lower deck.

For those who don’t want to catch a match, a stage is always set for some live entertainment from local bands and singers.

Like any port of call worth its salt, the bar is kept well stocked, too.

There are a wide range of hops on tap, as well as a whole host of grape and mixed drink options thrown in
for good measure.

If you work up an appetite during your stay, you won’t be left wanting either.

Visitors can sink their teeth into a bumper menu of burgers, sandwiches, plus other hearty pub grub classics such as fish and chips and steak and mushroom pie or try out the all-day breakfast option.

Whether you are popping in for a weekend sports viewing or letting your hair down for an evening of live music, Porters always manages to serve up a lively atmosphere.

The bottom line

A friendly, Brit-style pub with a lively vibe.
