You’d be forgiven for overlooking a cricket stadium as a place to go for a quick drink with a friend in Abu Dhabi.
There are just so many places to enjoy a nightcap, meet your mates and explore in this city, when it comes to nightspots.
You can take your pick from stunning five star hotels, swanky restaurants, great pubs and bars and a whole host of hidden gems located across the city too.
So, maybe we shouldn’t be too surprised that at the heart of a massive sports complex you can find a cosy bar, perfect for a quiet catch-up.
When we arrive at Zayed Cricket Stadium midweek, the place is buzzing with teams practicing football, Gaelic sports, cricket and more, across all the pitches and fields outside.
Inside The Boundary, things are far quieter with a few families enjoying a post-practice bite in the restaurant located next door to the bar.
We step through to the adjoining venue and at first we’re the only ones there.
It’s quiet, but that’s ok with us, it is midweek at the start of January and most of the other people in the area seem to be enjoying a work out and breaking a sweat instead of seeking out a refreshing beverage indoors.
The venue is small (with just a few tables and a bar) and dimly lit, making it a good place to watch some live sport on the screens dotted around the room.
Unfortunately there’s nothing playing on them live to grab our attention during this visit, but we settle in and take a seat anyway.
There’s a host of beverages available, including craft hops and mixed drinks, and there’s a a chilled vibe that’s ideal for having a chat with pals.
We order some drinks and take our seats to have a good-natured argument about football, while glancing at some of the highlights of the weekend’s games.
It’s a relaxed space, perfectly comfortable and chilled, but we’re not sure we’d go out of our way to visit if we weren’t already nearby. If we’re in the area again any time soon, though, we’d be happy to pop in for a quiet one.
