What is it you look for in a bar? Comfy seats, a casual vibe, some hearty grub and, often, a screen (or three) to watch live matches on. The Retreat at The Westin Abu Dhabi has all of the above, plus lovely views of the golf course, a sophisticated setting and a broad selection
of beverages.
Even though it’s based in one of the city’s swankiest hotels, The Retreat has a decidedly laidback atmosphere. During the day, natural light floods through the large windows, giving the indoor bar area a cheerful lift. However, while the weather is still perfect, we recommend sitting on the small(ish) terrace, soaking in the cool air and views of the greens. The perfect time to go is during sunset, from 5pm to 8pm, Saturday to Thursday, when happy hour runs. On Thursdays, the special offer extends to the lawns, offering a lovely, calm start to your weekend.
If you’re looking for a snack, then the food menu has plenty you can tuck into, even if it is a little unimaginative (burgers, fish and chips, curry – you know the drill). Meanwhile, there are pages of hops and grape, as well as a few classic mixed beverages, on the drinks menu.
It might not be a destination in itself, but The Retreat certainly has everything most people look for in a bar.
