Maybe it’s just us, but when the staff outnumber the customers at a venue we feel a little uneasy. While we love good service it’s hard to relax when you’re the centre of attention and the conscientious team is on hand hoping for something to do.
There seem to be a lot of employees at Turtle Bay on a Monday night but after half an hour of sitting at the bar we start to understand why: it’s suddenly absolutely packed. Most people are here for dinner, many of whom are guests of the hotel, while the rest of us have stopped by for a sundowner at the stylish seaside steakhouse.
We’re surpised by how busy it is and how quickly the guests have outnumbered the staff, who now have their work cut out for them after a slow start.
Disconnected from the hotel’s main building, Turtle Bay enjoys close proximity to the pool that’s lighting up the evening and the ocean whose crashing waves make soothing sounds. In the venue, it’s dark, relaxed and stylish. We’re comfortable at the bar but we’re also jealous of the delicious dishes making their way past us to tables around the room.
Along with our friend’s New York-influence mixed drink (pretty good, apparently), we order a soothing blend of mint, cucumber and lime which goes down rather nicely.
We also decide to snack on some truffled fries, which are wonderfully crispy, doused in just the right amount of aromatic truffle oil and a generous shaving of parmesan. They disappear quickly as we refresh our drinks.
The restaurant is lively, the setting relaxed and we definitely look forward to coming back to try one of those steaks or a selection of the other mixed drinks some time soon.
