We love discovering new places, and after hearing about the recent revamp of Waves Bar we decided to give it a go.
Usually we’re not huge fans of rockng up at a hotel’s pool bar and mingling amongst the swimsuit-clad guests sunning themselves, but there are a few in the city that we have been known to frequent (hello Jumeirah at Etihad Towers’ Pool Bar, W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island’s Wet Deck and The Westin’s Shades).
Well, you can now add Waves Bar to that list.
When we arrive early on a midweek evening it’s suitably relaxed. A few tables are taken up by in-house guests enjoying a quiet drink and a bite, and others have people like us, who’ve stopped off after work.
We love the new look. Decked out with bamboo-style strips on the walls, an inviting open bar at the heart, and dangling lights on ropes. With the pool in view, we instantly feel relaxed.
The vibe is chilled, there’s sport on the screens and there are loads of comfy places to grab a seat and unwind for a few hours.
There’s lots of food on the menu but we’re only after a little bite to eat to accompany a drink so we focus on the smaller plates.
We love chicken wings and dynamite shrimp but we can’t eat the same things all of the time (though we are tempted). Instead we opt for the mac ’n’ cheese bites, and we’re glad we did. They’re great, gooey and cheesy in the middle, crisp and golden on the outside – we devour them along with the blue cheese dip.
Our classic mixed drink is equally satisfying, with loads of ice, it’s refreshingly cool with every sip and it looks great too.
The service is efficient and attentive, too. Your glass is never empty and you don’t get harassed every two minutes by the staff.
That’s ideal in our book.
All in all, there’s a lot to love about Waves Bar and we’re happy to recommend it to you, too.
