New UAE school COVID-19 protocols allow parents to attend student events

The National Crisis Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA) announced the news effective from Thursday April 21

If you’re a teacher, student or parent, listen up. The National Crisis Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA) has announced new UAE school COVID-19 protocols with eased restrictions on school activities, trips and parent visits. There are also updates to requirements for university dorms.

The new UAE school COVID-19 protocols allow activities and events in all educational spaces to return. Parents are now allowed to attend student events and activities as long as they comply with preventative measures including wearing face masks and the green pass protocol on the Al Hosn app.

According to the new UAE school COVID-19 protocols, school trips are also allowed to resume. Students, staff and teachers will need to wear face masks while on school buses. Both vaccinated and unvaccinated students will be allowed to go on school trips as long as they have green status on the Al Hosn app.

For university dorms, students will now be required to take a PCR test once a month, or follow the green pass protocol. This measure applies to vaccinated and unvaccinated students.

Anyone who is visiting an educational establishment who is 16 or older will need to have green status on the Al Hosn app. If a student is under 16, he or she will need to conduct a PCR test on a monthly basis.

The new UAE school COVID-19 protocols also mean there are new procedures for educational institutions with confirmed COVID-19 cases. These include closing the school for three days if the infection rate rises above fifteen percent.

Those who have come into close contact with positive COVID-19 cases will no longer need to quarantine and those with respiratory diseases will be given the option to learn from home.

These updates are applicable throughout the UAE, however implementation will be carried out in coordination with local committees in each emirate.
