Holiday confirmed for Islamic New Year in the UAE

UPDATED: Public and private sector employees in Abu Dhabi and Dubai will return to work on Sunday

The Federal Authority for Human Resources have confirmed a public holiday for Islamic New Year in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

As we announced last week public and private sector workers will receive a one day holiday to mark Islamic New Year, also known as the Hijri New Year, on August 31.

That means that many public and private sector workers will return to work on Sunday September 1.

Back in March, we brought you the news of the UAE Cabinet announcing that in 2019 and 2020 the public and private sectors would get the same holidays.

Planning ahead for the rest of the year?

Here’s a provisional list of the country’s remaining public holidays for 2019 so you know what to look out for.

Sunday December 1: UAE Commemoration Day
Monday December 2-Tuesday December 3: UAE National Day
