When is the next public holiday in Abu Dhabi in 2021?

Get planning another break

Feeling refreshed from the fabulous five-day Eid weekend, but already secretly (or openly) planning for the next public holiday in Abu Dhabi in 2021?

Of course you are and the great news is the next extended public holiday in Abu Dhabi is just around the corner with Arafat Day expected to fall on Sunday July 18 and Eid Al-Adha due to be announced a day later on Monday July 19.

But with dates subject to the sighting of the moon, there is potential for Arafat Day to land on Monday July 19, creating a six-day break for those who are at the grindstone from Sunday to Thursday.

If you’re thinking further ahead, the next public holiday in Abu Dhabi after Eid Al-Adha will be the Islamic New Year or Hijri New Year which is expected to fall on Thursday August 12 meaning another three-day weekend.

After that, Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday on October 21 will land on a Thursday resulting in another three-day break for those who typically have Friday and Saturday off.

Commemoration Day and UAE National Day will, as usual, take place on Wednesday December 1 and December 2-3 respectively, however, what will put a smile on many workers’ faces is that it includes a Wednesday and Thursday and ergo another four-day break.

Finally, a day of observation for many but with no public holiday granted, Christmas Day (December 25), will land on Saturday, so it might be advised not to go for extra helpings if you have work at 9am the next morning.

The public holiday in Abu Dhabi dates for 2021 and 2022 were announced by the UAE Cabinet on December 9 2020 and are subject to change.
