Abu Dhabi signals conclusion of National Sterilisation Programme

Daily curfews have been lifted

Residents in Abu Dhabi  are no longer subject to daily curfews, with the emirate’s National Sterilisation Programme coming to an end.

An emirate-wide campaign began on Monday July 19, with restrictions on movement in place between midnight and 5am.

Residents and citizens were only allowed to leave their homes during this time to stock up on essential supplies, namely food and medicine, and only with a special permit from the local police authorities.

But the Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee has signalled the end of the programme, having achieved its objectives.

In a tweet, the committee thanked the public for its co-operation and advised all everyone to continue adhering to precautionary measures to protect public health and safety.

And residents and citizens will now be able to gather in public places in even greater numbers as capacity caps were increased at a number venues in the capital.

Capacity at shopping malls, entertainment centres, cultural centres, museums, cinemas, restaurants and cafés will be increased to 80 percent – provided that all precautionary measures are followed.

Capacity in restaurants and cafés across the capital will also increase to 80 percent, allowing up to ten people to sit together per table – provided that facemasks are worn when not dining.
