Updated COVID-19 fines announced for the UAE

Here’s the full list of what these infractions could cost you

The UAE has introduced a series of fresh fines for those who break COVID-19 regulations, which are in place to keep the population safe and stop the spread of the virus.

The updated list includes fines for evading or deceiving authorities to avoid quarantine, failing to adhere to precautionary measures, and spreading false news or rumours related to the virus. Employers will also be fined for failing to report workers who have tested positive.

Wondering what you can be fined for? Here are some of the important ones to know.

Refusing to go to the hospital when suffering from COVID-19, or neglecting to take the prescribed medicine will land you a Dhs50,000 fine. You will also be fined Dhs50,000 for breaking your home quarantine.

Avoiding quarantine by providing incorrect information about travel will result in a Dhs20,000 fine.

Violating e-tracking procedures can also lead to a series of fines.

Penalties are set at Dhs10,000 for not registering the device, or not informing the call centre of the device being lost or damaged within 24 hours.

Dhs1,000 for losing or damaging the device. Dhs20,000 for hacking into the device to change its data.

If you are having a small gathering, breaking the rules on the number of people allowed can get you a Dhs10,000 fine for organisers and Dhs5,000 fine for those who attend. Failing to enforce social distancing will land the organisers a Dhs10,000 fine.

Breaking the rules on the size of large social events such as weddings and funerals will get you a Dhs50,000 fine for organisers and Dhs15,000 fine for those attending.

Drivers will be fined Dhs3,000 for exceeding the number of non-related passengers in one vehicle.

You can be fined Dhs500 for failing to wear a mask in a workplace or shared housing, and Dhs3,000 at any other time in public.

Creating or changing information about test results will get you a Dhs10,000 fine, which will be doubled on a second offense.

Anyone who refuses to comply with officials on virus-related issues you will be fined Dhs10,000.
