UAE eases masks requirements in public places

New rules come after 80 percent of the population is vaccinated

Heading to the beach or pool, or planning to exercise outdoors? Rules regarding mask wearing in the UAE have eased.

The UAE has eased mask wearing requirements in some public places due to the recent fall in COVID-19 cases.

Under new rules, you will no longer need to wear a mask while exercising outside, at the beach or by the pool, while in a car or private space with individuals from the same household, or while in a barbershop or salon.

Previously, Abu Dhabi residents were required to wear a mask in almost all public places, including while exercising or while at the beach. Dubai residents were already able to exercise without a mask.

Social distancing of two metres is still mandatory.

This news follows a significant fall in COVID-19 cases with more than 80 percent of the population double vaccinated.

Other restrictions have been eased, including the use of electronic wristbands.

Travellers arriving in Abu Dhabi airport will no longer need to wear electronic wristbands to monitor their home quarantine.

Those who have been in contact with positive cases will also no longer need to wear the electronic wristband to monitor their home quarantine. Previously anyone in contact with a positive case would need to wear the electronic wristband during their ten-day quarantine.

The Abu Dhabi border rules have also been eased, allowing people travelling to the emirate from Dubai to enter without a negative COVID-19 test result. Previously, anyone who was vaccinated, or participating in a clinical trial, could cross the border into Abu Dhabi if they have green pass and an active E or star icon on Al Hosn app.
