4 new restaurants join Time Out Market Dubai’s home-grown line-up

SLAB cocina, Lana Lusa, The Lighthouse and Boon Coffee open as the Market turns one

A lot can happen in 12 months, right?

After an epic first year in business – during which time it has become the go-to dining destination in Souk Al Bahar (and beyond) – Time Out Market Dubai is celebrating its first anniversary on Thursday April 7, 2022 by welcoming four fabulous new restaurants to its fold.

Joining the Market today and ready for you to try from tomorrow, Friday April 8, these four eateries are among the most brilliant created here in Dubai.

Craving Latin American food? SLAB cocina has you covered. Want an authentic taste of Portuguese cuisine? Get ordering at Lana Lusa.

Coffee and cake kind of day? You’ll be spoilt for choice at Boon Coffee and The Lighthouse – Pastry and Dessert.

Home-grown, original, high quality food and drink from chefs passionate about the city in a venue dedicated to showing off the city’s best. What more could you want?

SLAB cocina

First up is SLAB cocina, serving modern Latin American eats born out of chef Omar Rodriguez’s SLAB Test Kitchen.

Feast on spicy chicken tinga taquitos, parmesan-aji Amarillo creamy chicken empanandas, and the tuna tostada Nikkei (pictured above).

After some plates to share? Try the crispy fish tacos, corn fritters and the Peruvian BBQ shrimp. You’ll be asking for more before that first portion is even finished.

Lana Lusa

Highly acclaimed for Portuguese fare made for sharing, it’s only a matter of days before queues snake around Time Out Market for Lana Lusa’s signature dishes. (So get down there now).

Rooted in Portugal, born in Dubai and now growing with its second location in the city, Lana Lusa’s menu is crammed with traditional plates. Our top picks are the pastéis de bacalhau (fried salted codfish), peixinhos da horta (tempura green beans, garlic and mayo), and the pica pau (rump cap sauteed with mustard and pickles).

Want something a little larger to get your chops around? You need the francesinha in your life. Hailing from Porto, this is the meatiest of sandwiches packed full of beef, veal ham and chorizo, smothered in melted cheese, and served with lashings of francesinha sauce, a gravy rich with tomato and hops. It comes with fries so you can mop up every last drop.

The Lighthouse – Pastry and Dessert

Sweet-toothed diners will be delighted to hear that The Lighthouse is now at Time Out Market Dubai. Executive pastry chef Waddah Bou Saad is taking the helm at the kitchen, serving up the desserts and pastries you’ll know and love.

Could anything be more incredibly moreish than The Lighthouse umm ali, topped with malt ice cream, raisins, pistachios and almonds?

Well, possibly. There’s also the supremely zesty passion fruit and yuzu cheesecake, chocolate, caramel or pistachio eclairs, and the region’s favourite, saffron milk cake.

Boon Coffee

You’ll have worked up a thirst by now, and as luck would have it, Dubai-based Boon Coffee is the fourth new Dubai-born brand to launch at Time Out Market.

This is no ordinary coffee. Founded by Orit Mohammed, Boon uses coffee beans carefully sourced from farms in Ethiopia, bringing only the best Arabica beans to your cup.

Choose your classic go-to, espresso for your mid-morning pick-me-up,  iced mocha for that afternoon treat, or try one of the highly recommended infused nitro cold brews. There are also plenty of all-day goodies to stave off that hunger, from salmon and cream cheese toast to the one we’re all waiting to try, the quinoa cruffin.

The launch of these four new vendors, which we repeat are now open, is the just the first of Time Out Market Dubai’s birthday celebrations.

Mark Monday May 2 to Wednesday May 4 in your calendars now. Time Out Market will be celebrating its first birthday in line with the Eid holiday, slated to start on May 2.

There will be live music, kids entertainment and activities, and new DJ sets daily, meaning Dubai’s best food hall will buzz even more than usual.

Join in, eat (a lot) and discover your new favourite dish.
