Pakistan sets 48-hour PCR test validity for travellers

The changes come into effect on Wednesday December 8

Travelling to Pakistan? The country has updated its COVID-19 PCR test validity for travellers from the UAE and other countries. As of Wednesday December 8, all inbound travellers must have PCR tests that are less than 48 hours.

The National Command & Operation Centre (NCOC) of Pakistan announced the update for all inbound passengers. The update applies to travellers who are fully vaccinated.

On October 1, Pakistan banned unvaccinated travellers. Unvaccinated Pakistani nationals are permitted to enter the country in certain cases, including pregnant women and Pakistani nationals who are partially vaccinated.

The previous rules allowed travellers to Pakistan to have PCR tests valid up to 72 hours.

Anyone travelling from the United Arab Emirates should be aware of numerous travel updates due to the Omicron variant.

Going to the UK? Travellers from all countries, including the UAE, need to take a pre-departure PCR COVID test. The new COVID-19 travel update applies to everyone travelling to the United Kingdom who is aged 12 and older. The pre-departure PCR test must be taken a maximum of 48 hours before travelling. Additionally, the ruling is for to all travellers, regardless of vaccination status. The test can be a PCR or a lateral flow. The UK’s new PCR test mandate came into effect on Tuesday December 7.

The UAE has shortened its PCR test validity to maintain green status on the Alhosn app. Effective Sunday December 5, a negative PCR test on the Alhosn app will only get green status for 14 days.

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) revealed the major change to the Alhosn app and green pass. Prior to the update, a negative PCR test had green status for 30 days.

Want to keep green status? You will need a negative PCR test that is not over 14 days old, meaning you will need to get tested for COVID-19 at least every two weeks. Green status in Abu Dhabi is required to visit many public places, such as shopping malls and restaurants.
