UAE announces travel ban on unvaccinated citizens

There is a requirement to get the booster shot for the fully vaccinated

The United Arab Emirates has announced a travel ban on unvaccinated citizens. The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) made the announcement that from Monday January 10, 2022 there will be a ban on travel on UAE citizens who are unvaccinated against COVID-19.

Additionally, NCEMA revealed that there is a requirement for those who are fully vaccinated to obtain their COVID-19 booster doses. The COVID-19 protocol update was shared on Saturday January 1.

The UAE coronavirus travel and booster dose requirement does not apply to those who are medically exempted from taking the COVD-19 vaccine as well as those who are travelling for medical treatment or considered humanitarian cases.

There have been numerous UAE COVID-19 updates for 2022. United Arab Emirates schools are moving to remote learning when the semester begins on Monday January 3, 2022. At the end of 2021, Abu Dhabi announced that students in the capital would have two weeks of distance education to keep everyone safe from COVID-19 and the Omicron variant.

The COVID-19 schooling update was approved by the Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee and applies to all public and private schools in Abu Dhabi, including colleges, universities and training institutes in the capital.

Last week, Abu Dhabi also shared updated entry requirements for those travelling to the capital from within the UAE. From Thursday December 30, vaccinated individuals entering Abu Dhabi must present green status on the Al Hosn app to enter Abu Dhabi. Those who are unvaccinated and wish to enter the emirate from within the UAE, must show a negative PCR test result received within 96 hours.

EDE scanners will continue to be used at Abu Dhabi’s borders to detect potential COVID-19 cases.
