99 Sushi Bar & Restaurant

A chic sushi spot by the water at The Galleria Al Maryah Island

99 problems? Not at 99 Sushi Bar & Restaurant. In fact, there’s little you won’t love about the high-end Japanese restaurant on the water by the Four Seasons in The Galleria Al Maryah Island. The bar and restaurant has locations across Spain as well as a Dubai outpost, and in Abu Dhabi, it’s one of the city’s most popular picks for good reason.

There are private spots dotted around the dimly lit room that offer great views. If you want a prime seat of the chefs at work, grab one at the counter. And if you want to feel the breeze and marvel at the beauty of Abu Dhabi, head to the terrace.

The dress code is smart elegant and staff are well-heeled in all-black or sleek suits. They buzz about, but no matter how busy it gets (and it does), things never seem chaotic. They manage the flow and the food.

99 Sushi’s business lunch (Dhs149 per person) or Furu Tasting Menu (from Dhs899 per couple) are great introductions (or reintroductions) to this contemporary Japanese restaurant.

The set menus showcase just how much is on offer, which is a lot, from hot and cold starters, carpaccio, sushi and sashimi, to mains. Don’t miss out on the 99 katsusando or the 99 yuzu cheesecake: the latter surprisingly isn’t an airy Japanese cake but a beautiful, denser one topped with a sugar dome. The menu has a range of prices, but there are plenty of smaller plates between Dhs70 to Dhs150.

Struggling to read the sparkling menu? It’s that dark. But, staff are ready with lights as we notice on a few occasions. It’s all the better to see the Dhs1,000+ caviar options. Don’t worry, you can clearly see what you’re eating and all the gold leaf.

With sushi, sparkle and plenty of swagger, you’ve got a starting three reasons to visit 99 Sushi. But there are plenty more. Head down to start counting for yourself.
