Al Fujairah

(NULL)

From Time Out Abu Dhabi Eating Out 2010

When you head off the beaten track you do tend to sacrifice comfort for authenticity. Certainly, Al Fujairah is basic, but that is not to say that it isn’t clean, or the service isn’t good. You don’t last this long in the UAE without building up a following and this place is ancient by Abu Dhabi standards, having been in business for over 14 years. The delicious nosh reels in a diverse clientele of Pakistani regulars, well-heeled locals and the occasional Westerner, although the ‘newbie’ stare factor is always a possibility.

The hearty Pakistani food makes good fuel for the city’s hard-working community, with chewy bread and hot and flavoursome pots of meaty curries. The cooks can be too generous with the ghee, though, and clarified butter pools atop the signature chicken kadai, but there are also few cheaper eateries in the capital, and in terms of value for money, it’s a total bargain.
