Burro Blanco

Brilliant Mexican street food in Abu Dhabi

When it comes to food, more often than not, simplicity is key.

Chefs like to play with huge varieties of ingredients and flavours but the more you add, the more you can take away, too.

Give us a simple dish, a few select ingredients, prepared well and with no crazy gimmicks to hide behind and we’ll show you a happy diner enjoying a good meal.

Mexican cuisine doesn’t overcomplicate things, yet, the country’s most famous dishes are known for vibrant flavours and classic combinations.

From fresh food truck tacos enjoyed by the side of the road in Los Angeles to all the nachos we’ve munched in bars across the world, Mexican food is simple, happy food and we wouldn’t change a thing about it.

Homegrown Mexican street food restaurant Burro Blanco has been a favourite of ours since it first opened and has even won a Time Out Abu Dhabi restaurant award for Best Budget.

When we heard that the brand was expanding, opening a  second branch in Masdar City, we decided it was time we paid a visit again to see if Burro Blanco still serve the best Mexican food in town.

We say paid a visit, we ordered in, after all, the brand throws in a free burrito when you order through the mobile app.

We start by tucking into some tortilla chips as we unpack the bag and they don’t put a foot wrong. With creamy guacamole and punchy salsa, it’s a winning combo every, single time.

The avocado fritas, that’s deep fried avocado slices, are a hit. The batter is thin, crisp and the spicy salsa brings the whole thing to life. They’re a real treat.

For the mains we order a trio of tacos and a burrito. The tacos, with their soft shells, are filled with black beans, pulled beef, sour cream and cheese.

We maybe overdid it with the fillings, it spills out a little, but we aren’t complaining with the taste.

Burro Blanco certainly doesn’t skimp with their burritos either, they’re completely packed full.

We manage to widen our jaws enough to enjoy the rice, beans, guacamole and beef, plus a real punch of habanero mango salsa.

It’s excellent Mexican food, no fuss, no arguments. For our money, there isn’t a better option in town for Mexican street food, and now there are two of them we’re even happier.
