When it comes to top quality steakhouses, we are happy to say we are spoilt for choice here in Abu Dhabi. So it is hard not to judge a book by its cover when first impressions don’t quite cut the mustard in comparison to the cream of the capital’s crop.
That is how we feel as we arrive at Choice Cut based at the Novotel Abu Dhabi, which is a rather unspectacular four-star hotel in a city where five stars are taken for granted. The decor of the restaurant itself has more of the feel of an all-day dining spot than a steakhouse, but things soon look up when we see the menu.
Along with a good variety of steaks there are alternative options such as seafood, duck and chicken. A light and fresh selection from the complementary salad bar gets the meal off to a good start, and then we plump for a US Angus beef tenderlion. It is juicy, tender and full of flavour, and accompanied by crispy, golden-brown onions and a beautifuly fluffy mound of mash.
This certainly isn’t an all-for-show-sizzle-but-no-substance kind of place. The dishes are good value and don’t disappoint on taste. Despite first impressions, we reckon it’s worth sinking your teeth into.
