Copacabana

Review: A delicious taste of Brazil set to take over Abu Dhabi

If a stranger brandishes a sword at you when you’re sitting down for a nice evening meal, it’s natural to be a little unnerved.

But what if that sword is actually a skewer of delicious barbecued meat cooked to perfection? Welcome to Copacabana, Abu Dhabi’s newest Brazilian steakhouse and churrascaria.

The concept is simple. Grab yourself a plate and choose from a buffet of salads, including tasty potato salad, gorgeous greens and a Portuguese staple – a black bean and meat stew named feijoada. Then sit down and turn the little wheel on your table from red to green, meaning you’re ready for a procession of carnivorous treats.

Different cuts of beef, lamb and chicken, all cooked to your preference, are carved at your table on the aforementioned swords, which are used to cook the meat over hot coals. It’s all you can eat, too, so there’s no danger of going home hungry.

Picanha, a cut from the top sirloin, is Brazil’s favourite slice of beef and we reckon it’s well on its way to putting Abu Dhabi under its spell as well.

Make no mistake, this is an absolute feast so it’s best tackled with an empty stomach.

If, eventually, you’ve had your fill of meat, the polenta, fried cassava or cheese platter might take your fancy. And,
if you’re after something sweet, try the melted chocolate-filled cookie.Delicious.

Overall, we’re thoroughly impressed by this newcomer.

Staff are super-friendly, the décor is cool and the chilled atmosphere makes the meal even more enjoyable. There’s also a good range of South American mocktails, fresh juices, grape options and mixed drinks.

If you haven’t tried churrascaria, then pay a visit to Copacabana. Just don’t be alarmed at the swordsmen.

The bottom line
Fun, filling and well worth a look.
