Café culture in Abu Dhabi is on a high. From cosy neighborhood venues to the quirkier themed outlets, you’re bound to find your cup of tea (or, erm, coffee) somewhere in town.
Crustique falls into the former category. Nestled between the energy and finance ministries, it looks like a standard café that offers nothing other than a standard menu – sandwiches, salads, cakes, smoothies and the like.
We’re here for a lazy weekend breakfast, an idea a few more people seem to have had as well. The all-day menu doesn’t have too much on it, but there’s enough to choose from.
The café’s signature sweet potato waffle benedict combines two classic dishes and is a super choice. The healthier spud waffles are light and crunchy and do well to mop up the runny yolk. The rashers of veal bacon are thick, and the wilted spinach makes us feel good about the otherwise indulgent start.
If you’re after something more traditional, the Arabic breakfast includes a hearty bowl of foul.
The food won’t let you down here but the service, however, needs improvement. Staff are lovely but there’s a mix-up every time we’re here. It’s more frustrating than infuriating but is still a little off-putting.
The bottom line
The food makes it worth a visit.
