It’s the sound of ’90s European dance music that hits us first. Then, the foosball tables, lines of wooden benches, deer antler light fittings and the marine life on the big screen come next.
But we’re pleased to report our stand-out memory of this quirky Bavarian bar and restaurant is the delicious, comforting food.
The charming venue styles itself on all things German, from the country’s famous cuisine and beverages to the traditional clothing and music. The menu is a carb-lover’s dream. Think everything from sausages and stews to schnitzels and pretzels.
We start with the dynamite shrimp (not so German). It’s perhaps a little pricey, but is thoroughly enjoyable and has just enough kick without blowing your lederhosen off. We go for currywurst for our main – a beef sausage topped with curry sauce and ketchup and served with fries. It more than merits us choosing it over the chicken schnitzel and beef goulash that had tempted us. Desserts include apple fritters and pancakes, both of which are definite winners.
Das Brauhaus has a sort of awkward style but it possesses an abundance of substance, with super staff, reasonable prices and tasty food.
