Food Shed

Simple, wholesome dishes ideal for a casual bite

We’re probably all aware of the need to eat more healthily and more responsibly. Over the last few years we’ve been told which foods to eat more of and which to eat less of (often they’re the same), to take notice of where our ingredients come from and how they’ve arrived at the place we’re eating. Of course, it can be hard to keep up and often these missives are hard to follow stringently, but nonetheless, they keep coming.

With that in mind, we are having lunch in Food Shed, a fairly new, casual spot in the Khalifa Park area that prides itself on serving wholesome dishes from breakfast until night, and has a store for organic foods and groceries attached to it.

The space is pretty basic, but not uncomfortable, and the staff offer a warm welcome.

If you want to head somewhere for a coffee and catch up with friends after dropping the kids off at school, we can’t think of many places better in this part of town.

Coffees are excellent and there are smoothies, juices and teas, too.

Tasty-looking sandwiches, cakes and pastries are available from the counter, but we order off the menu.

You’ll find plenty of vegan dishes and gluten-free options as well as healthy breads.

There are lots of dishes that take our fancy, as well as a few daily specials. We go for a lamb burger and chicken kebabs.

It’s all served quite rustically, the emphasis is on ingredients and taste rather than unnecessary fripperies.

The meat in the burger is from a local farm, the bun is soft and delicious and the accompanying chips are as good as we’ve had anywhere. The kebabs, with spiced rice, are less memorable but still good.

Whatever your dietary requirements, you’ll find plenty to like here.

The bill (for two)
1x lamb burger  Dhs60
1x chicken kebabs  Dhs55
1x long black  Dhs20
1x orange juice Dhs25
Total (incl. fees and taxes) Dhs160

The bottom line
Food with no-frills but plenty of heart.
