MYNT

A petite Indian restaurant with top-notch dishes

MYNT
MYNT

Mild or spicy, rich or light, Indian  cuisine has a dish to appeal to everyone. And nowhere is this more true than at low-key (yet cool) restaurant MYNT.

The outside of MYNT belies its size. Inside, the petite space is laid-out to feel bigger than it is, but it still remains intimate. The décor is slick, with dark furnishings and low lighting, and when we arrive for a late meal the place is busy, with both families and couples enjoying the warm vibe and friendly service.

If you’re looking for interesting dishes, then MYNT is for you. The menu is extensive with plenty of quirky dishes such as Amritsari fish fingers and “gunpowder” murgh on the list.

We kick off with the MYNT special – a smörgåsbord of veggie dishes that holds plenty to share.

The plate is laden with tandoori mushrooms, paneer tikka, gohbi and broccoli and vegetable samosas. All are delicious, with special mention for the gohbi and broccoli, which comes marinated with cream cheese and labneh and finished in a tandoor. It’s rich, cheesy and moreish. The samosas are packed full of veg, while the garlicky paneer is tasty and perfectly cooked.

We follow the advice of our server for main courses, going with the Kolhapuri chicken and Goan fish curry. Spice levels are tailored to your palate, so whether you’re after something fiery or mild, the choice is yours.

The curries are a hit. The chicken comes in a robust sauce, with grated coconut and spices from the Kolhapuri area of Maharashtra. It’s punchy and flavoursome, while the chicken is tender. The fish curry is equally tasty, with flaky chunks of white fish simmering in a rich, spicy coconut milk sauce, which is lifted by the zing of tamarind.

If you’re vegetarian the chana masala is a top choice, too. The rustic chickpea stew is packed with flavour and legumes, making it a satisfying dish.

And dishes are also a bargain for the portion-size, with heaps to go around (come hungry). The chana masala comes in at just Dhs27 for a substantial bowl of steaming curry, while fish and chicken dishes still fall under Dhs50. Scoop it all up with a plain naan (which is super soft) and it’ll set you back just Dhs5.

With flavour-packed dishes coming in at pocket-friendly prices, MYNT is a must-try.
