Nalukettu

This is a decent budget restaurant that serves good Keralan food

From Time Out Abu Dhabi Eating Out 2010

Abu Dhabi Marina and Yacht Club is a curious place, the courtyard lined with a hodgepodge of restaurants, all of which look like they’ve been transplanted from a frontier town. Dust and peeling paint work are prevalent, and none of the establishments look like they’ve seen life since the prospectors rolled out of town. It’s with some trepidation, then, that you approach the bolted door of Nalukettu, nudging it to see if it gives, peering through into the gloom to find the happiest waiter in the city, obviously delighted to see anyone.

It’s a homely place, once your eyes have grown accustomed to the dimly-lit interior, with a handful of widescreen TVs blasting Bollywood, and a pile of tat in the corner, just to give it that extra lived-in feel. The menu is largely Keralite, which means plenty of things fried in coconut oil, and the chef obviously has a thing for Chinese food, as that warrants its own section, too. It’s cheap and honest – one look at the place tells you exactly what you should expect – and the low prices mean you can eat heartily before heading back to the trail.
