Nihal

Nihal stands out because compared to its brightly lit neighbours, it looks positively quaint

From Time Out Abu Dhabi Eating Out 2010

Nihal is twinned with Tandoori Corner, over in the Al Wahda district, though it’s immediately obvious that this is the more well-to-do sibling thanks to a recent makeover. The same waiters mill around the kitchen door, just as friendly, just as vast in number, though noticeably better dressed. Ask them to turn the air conditioning down a bit, and this becomes a pleasant place to spend a slow Friday afternoon, as many of the local inhabitants have realised. Best to get there around midday, or phone ahead, as it begins to fill up very quickly. The food is good, too.

The chaats are killer spicy, nicely soothed with one of the delicate lassies, and the samosas are weighty enough to do someone an injury. Nihal scores extra high marks, however, for its Goan curries, which are light, creamy and not daredevil hot. The fish appears to be as fresh and well-prepared as some of the city’s more upmarket establishments, which is a blessing for those on a budget, as you could eat here every day without argument from your bank manager.
