Noodle Box

Asian grub in a sci-fi setting

From Time Out Abu Dhabi Eating Out 2010

Going by name alone, you might expect to find this Far Eastern joint in a shunned corner of Marina Mall – it hardly suggests the shiny white chic of The Yas Hotel. However, it keeps the rice and noodle corner of the market covered very nicely indeed, with a good-sized selection of dishes and a decent drinks menu. Recommended are the nasi goring, the chicken green curry and the siew mai dumplings, each being a highlight of the Malay, Thai and Chinese menus respectively. There’s not a lot of difference in setting from one Yas Hotel restaurant to the next, but the terrace provides a decent atmosphere in the cooler months.

Never once did we feel intruded upon by the waiting staff, a definite fault in some of the hotel’s other eateries. The Noodle Box waitresses are so restrained you might even think them shy. The only real disappointment came on the dessert menu, where the exotic choices arrived tasting a little as though they’d been plucked from a freezer and warmed through in the microwave, but fill your table with more savoury nibbles and you won’t ever need to get that far.
