“Get in there!” Three of the words you’ll definitely hear ringing out through NRG Sports Café regularly. One: because it’s a brilliant bar with a strong line-up of TVs beaming out the big games. Two: because it runs a Dhs25 happy hour every day. And three (and most importantly): the chicken wings are sublime.
We venture down to Le Méridien Village’s quirky courtyard and find this sports bar is buzzing with crowds of excited football fans. There are dozens of flatscreens, a handful of smiling staff who serve pints quicker than Kylian Mbappé’s rise to the top and a selection of classic pub games.
We’ll kick off with the highest of high praise for the crispiest of crisp wings. Hats off to the chefs, this is no sorry sports bar snack and, luckily for us, they’re served as a platter of 20 and devoured to the whooping sounds of hungry diners.
Having been bowled over by the wings, it’s with even more surprise to see this humble bar’s efforts with wagyu beef short ribs. They fall off the bone, literally, at the softest of fork pokes. They’re meaty, drizzled in a deep, rich sauce and aren’t too unreasonably priced at Dhs115 considering the portion size and cut.
The menu boasts a strong selection of bar food staples such as nachos, burgers and pizzas. There’s also a daily rotation of specials including Sunday roasts, curries and Friday fish suppers. There’s a heavy slice of British influence, only with chicken wings that are out of this world.
