Rainbow Steakhouse

Rainbow Hotel Apartments

From Time Out Abu Dhabi Eating Out 2010

It takes a brave individual to stumble off the main culinary highways of this city. The sideways and byways are littered with establishments you wouldn’t curse your most hated enemy to dine in – the majority of which bear aging yellow signs boasting of their service of Liptons teas. But Rainbow Steakhouse is a little different. Yes, it lurks in an inconspicuous location and a glance at the budget-busting price of Dhs58 for an all-you-can-eat buffet suggests gourmet isn’t exactly on the menu, but as far as cheap nosebags go, this isn’t too awful a job. The buffet makes a decent attempt at trying to remain fresh.

The swampy looking curries are at least mild enough not to offend, while a mix of seafood and more Arabic fare bulk out the rest of the selection, accompanied by the usual mix of mezze, limp salads and hot entrees. It isn’t too bad and, of course, taking into account the name, there are a vast range of steaks on offer, although, at less than Dhs50 each, don’t be expecting wagyu. The entire restaurant does give a sense of being slightly stale, even if the décor isn’t too offensive, but if you go not expecting anything more than a bargain scoff then you won’t be too disappointed.
