Ray’s Grill

A fancy steakhouse found high in the sky

Ray’s Grill
Ray’s Grill

Never have we been more distracted during a meal then at Ray’s Grill, and we’ve found ourselves in some fairly unusual dining situations over the years. Situated on the 63rd floor of Jumeirah at Etihad Towers, the view of the city is mesmerising, and we take dozens of photos before ordering.

It’s not exactly a run-of-the-mill lunch spot, but as the business lunch deal costs a rather reasonable Dhs125 per person, we decide to treat ourselves to a taste of the high life (quite literally, given the location).

We start with some chicken satay skewers and in a somewhat maverick move at a steakhouse, avocado and eggs on toast.

Both portions are dainty but made with  quality ingredients. The chicken is scattered with colourful chillis and the egg is cooked to runny perfection.

For mains we try the tenderloin and it’s a truly excellent piece of meat, served with thick pepper sauce and a side of skinny fries.
However, it might be a controversial statement to make about a steakhouse, but the sweetcorn risotto is just as good, if not better than, the steak. Balancing a dreamy mix of sweet, salty and creamy flavours, and topped with parmesan crisps, it’s one of the most comforting dishes we’ve ever tried.

We should live the high life more often.
