Rosewater

Fine dining, buffet-style

Recently opened in Jumeriah at Etihad Towers, new restaurant Rosewater offers all day dining with a delightful mix of international cuisine. The beauty of Rosewater is not only the huge array of buffet style cuisine, but also being able to watch the chefs cook up something special of your choice at one of the live cooking stations.

We were seated at a table outside on the terrace, overlooking the pool below. The table was thoughtfully laid with crisp white linen, and the staff were friendly. The maître d welcomed us and walked us through all of the different types of food on offer and explained that we would be able to have certain foods cooked at our request.

The buffet at Rosewater is well thought out and includes a wide range of options including seafood consisting of fresh lobster, prawns, crab and fresh fish, steak that is cooked to your liking right in front of you, tasty Indian curries, an array of Arabic style meat and lots of fresh sides to choose from.

Highlights were the sushi and sashimi which are freshly made for you. We started with servings of nigiri and salmon sushi which were both fresh and excellent. We also indulged in some of the seafood which was of high quality and beautifully presented, all topped off with a generous serving of salads and breads.

For a mains we chose to have a lamb fillet and a tuna steak, each cooked at a live station. The lamb was beautifully done and seasoned lightly with salt and pepper which really enhanced the flavour of the fillet. The fish was also excellent and broke apart perfectly on the fork as it was eaten. Feeling full but still wanting to carry on eating, we next went for the chicken tikka masala which was well flavoured and packed a decent punch. We also chose Arabic style lamb chops with flavoured rice and although they were slightly overcooked, they were still juicy. We finished the meal off with a selection of desserts from the dessert bar. Stand outs were the apple pie, vanilla crème brulee and a selection of fresh fruit. This was the perfect end to a very big meal.

One small niggle was the lack of music outside. We felt the ambiance suffered and it was possible to hear the conversations of the other diners, even though there is plenty of room between the tables. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience and with lots of different types of food to be savoured we’re sure to be back again.
