Texas de Brazil

Review: A churrascaria that certainly gives you bang for your buck

While our city boasts top-notch steakhouses, churrascarias are few and far between. In fact, until Texas de Brazil swung open its doors earlier this year, there was just the one.

For the uninitiated, a churrascaria is a Brazilian-style steakhouse where the servers, or passadores, walk around with large skewers of barbecued meat, slicing them onto your plate. This allows diners to sample many types of meat in one sitting (and get very full in the process).

Despite its mall location, Texas de Brazil can pack in a mini army and then some. In the middle sits the salad area and it is not an afterthought. There’s an impressive selection of salads, cheese, fresh vegetables, dips… We enjoy the roasted cauliflower, moughrabieh salad, and stewed mushrooms. We even go back for seconds.

But the highlight is the meat fiesta, and as we flip our little card disc from red to green, up walks our first cowboy with his offering. The Picanha is the standout star from the beef selection – the signature cut oozes flavour. The slow-roasted lamb is another favourite, it is soft and succulent, while the chicken options are tasty, but not as tender. But there’s plenty to keep us happy. We will be back.

The bottom line

A fine meat feast that’s very affordable.
