There’s something about Yas Marina that just brings a smile to our faces.
Maybe it’s the stunning sunsets, gazing across the water at W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island or perhaps the memories of F1 weekend, yachts, ships and boats, roaring engines and a buzzing atmosphere.
We make our way to The Scene on a Saturday afternoon with one thing in mind, a roast dinner.
It’s one thing we miss from back home, gathering at a grandparents house or meeting at the pub to tuck into a stacked plate of meat, veg and perhaps most essential, a proper Yorkshire pudding.
We arrive in a large group (there are more than 12 of us), so we find ourselves split over a few tables. We take our place in the back room of the restaurant, meaning there will be no gazing across the water on this visit, but there is sport on the screens, plenty of people for a good conversation and a nice buzz about the room.
While there are different meats and combinations on offer, for us, when it comes to a roast, it has to be beef, cooked pink and with a healthy dollop of horseradish, too.
Plates arrive at different times, it appears that the whole restaurant is enjoying a roast.
There’s nothing we don’t like on the plate. The beef is outrageously tender, the Yorkshire bulging and golden brown, the cabbage, potatoes and carrots all perfect and the gravy plentiful.
Plus, with any main meal you can get a drink for Dhs1. A cool pint of hops is just the ticket and we loosen our belt and enjoy the dying embers of the weekend.
Life is good and The Scene’s roast dinners are still magnificent.
