UAE tops world ranking for testing for COVID-19

Highest ranked in the world for July and August

The UAE has taken big steps to implement testing for COVID-19 and introducing measures to ensure public safety.

In July and August 2020, the UAE ranked first in the number of COVID-19 tests carried out per capita.

In August, more than 2 million tests were carried out in labs in the country, the eight highest number in the world.

During that time the total number of cases has reduced by 21 percent and the mortality rate by 5.7 percent.

Of all the tests carried out in July and August 0.47 percent were positive.

These figures were announced at the UAE Government’s weekly COVID-19 press conference.

At the meeting it was also announced that individuals with Type 1 diabetes or gestational diabetes are more likely to get complications with COVID-19.

In addition, symptoms of COVID-19 begin within four to five days after infection but can be longer in elderly people and those suffering from chronic diseases.

The UAE government also reminded residents to remain vigilant and take responsibility to stop the spread of the virus.
