UAE lifts PCR requirement for vaccinated passengers and updates land port entry rules

The latest updates take effect on Thursday March 3

There are fresh changes for travellers entering the UAE. For those coming to the United Arab Emirates, PCR tests will not be required from February 26. Additionally, all land port entry procedures are being updated on Thursday March 3.

Travellers coming to the UAE are required to show an approved COVID-19 vaccination certificate that contains a QR code. They will no longer be required to take a PCR test, but the ability to take a PCR upon arrival will be available.

Additionally, all entry procedures for the UAE will apply to land ports from Thursday March 3 according to the National Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA). The authority advises “those coming through land ports to undergo a PCR test within 24 hours of arriving in the country, specifically those who plan to stay in the country for over 72 hours”.

NCEMA previously announced on February 25 that fully vaccinated travellers 12 and older will now only need to show a vaccine certificate along with a readable QR code. Additionally, NCEMA has removed the green list for travel to Abu Dhabi.

If you are not vaccinated and travelling to the UAE, you need to show a negative PCR test conducted within 48 hours of departure or proof of a COVID recovery complete with a QR code highlighting you’ve recovered from COVID-19 within a month of the date of travel.

Dubai has announced that effective Saturday February 26, vaccinated passengers traveller to the emirate will no longer be required to present a negative PCR test conducted for 48 hours before travel. Instead, vaccinated passengers will only be required to present their approved vaccination certificate, complete with QR code.

Dubai PCR requirements will remain in place for unvaccinated travellers, who will need to provide a negative PCR test conducted within 48 hours of their flight’s departure.

Among other changes announced were updates to rules on face masks. The wearing of masks outdoors is now optional in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and throughout the UAE, though remains mandatory across indoor public spaces.

Earlier on Thursday evening (February 25), Dubai also confirmed that restaurants can return to 100 percent capacity for the first time since the start of 2020.

Shisha cafés are also back to 100 percent capacity, but as per UAE law, smoking areas must allow space for two square metres per person.

In Abu Dhabi, NCEMA also removed the requirement at the Abu Dhabi / Dubai border for a green Al Hosn pass. Green passes remain a requirement for those wishing to enter public spaces in Abu Dhabi, such as malls and restaurants.
