Looking to get into the great outdoors and experience the incredible landscapes of the UAE? Abu Dhabi’s Al Wathba lake campsite is now open with a running and cycling track, eco-camping facilities and playgrounds.
The Al Wathba lake campsite provides UAE residents with a new camping and picnicking destination and bolsters eco-tourism.
If you want to get away from the city and enjoy an adventurous staycation, the Al Wathba lake campsite is a 45-minute drive from the centre of Abu Dhabi and includes a variety of pitch types.
There are 13 new campsites that surround the man-made lake, and they are fully protected from the natural environment. You can access the lake and the desert landscape from any of the campsites while staying safe and secure with restrooms, first aid facilities and waste management.

The Al Wathba lake campsite has capacity for 120 people and you can set up tents or use an RV to take in the beauty of the desert up close. The camp also includes 24 picnic sites with space for barbecues and 3,000 square metres of recreation space for over 500 visitors.
Looking to get active while taking in the stunning desert landscape? The project also has 1,400 metres of walking and running track around the lake, a 1,200-metre cycle path, two volleyball courts and seven playgrounds. Phew. You can also climb up to one of the site’s two observation decks to take in the panoramic views. With so much variety, there should be an activity to suit everyone.
If you’re feeling peckish, there’s space for ten food trucks plus cafés to enjoy.
