UAE updates entry rules for vaccinated and unvaccinated arriving by land

Tourists, non-vaccinated and partially vaccinated can now get green status on Al Hosn app

Wondering what’s the latest on Al Hosn green status? Tourists, non-vaccinated and partially vaccinated can now get green status on Al Hosn app. The news follows Abu Dhabi updating its entry requirements for unvaccinated visitors and the UAE changing its land border policies.

From Tuesday March 29, those coming to the UAE by land will not need a pre-departure PCR test. The new COVID update applies to those who are vaccinated and unvaccinated against COVID-19. The announcement was made the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) along with the the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security on Friday March 25.

From March 29, people entering the UAE through the country’s land ports will now have to undertake the rapid Exponential Deep Examination (EDE) scanners. And they won’t be allowed entry to the UAE before the EDE tests appear. All the vehicle occupants have to perform the EDE test as a precondition to entering the United Arab Emirates.

Additionally, NCEMA highlighted the importance of visitors using the Al Hosn app and presenting green status for events, tourists attractions and to gain entry to other public places.

Earlier in the week, the Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee announced that non-vaccinated visitors will need a negative 48-hour PCR test result to attend events, tourist attractions and cultural sites in the emirate. The update to entry requirements was effective Wednesday March 17.

If you are unvaccinated but have a 48-hour negative PCR test you will achieve green pass status and will be able to enter public spaces in Abu Dhabi.

The COVID protocol update was announced by the Abu Dhabi Media Office on the same day it came into effect. “The updated guidelines are part of reduced precautionary measures in line with the ongoing recovery phase of the COVID19 pandemic”, reported the Abu Dhabi Media Office.

There have been a number of COVID-19 protocol changes recently across the UAE, including changes to entry requirements, changes for travellers, such as ending PCR tests on arrival, as well as to face mask procedures and to Abu Dhabi borders.

Furthermore, PCR tests in Abu Dhabi have been reduced to Dhs40. Previously, the set cost of a standard PCR test in the capital was Dhs50.
