UAE updates green pass validity on Alhosn app

The change comes into effect on December 5

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has announced a major change to the Alhosn app and green pass: From Sunday December 5, a negative PCR test on the app will only get green status for 14 days instead of the current 30 days.

With the updated COVID-19 protocols on the Alhosn app, users will lose their green status after the 14 days and it will turn to grey. Wondering how to maintain green status on the Alhosn app with the new measures? To keep green status, users will need a negative PCR test that is not over 14 days old. Therefore, those wishing to enter certain public places, such as shopping malls, exhibitions and restaurants, will need to have negative PCR test results at least every two weeks.

The important coronavirus update comes as the United Arab Emirates has taken proactive measures as cases increase worldwide and there’s concern over the spread of the new Omicron variant. Additionally, the UAE is ramping up testing to ensure safety and safe tourism and travel.

The UAE has made several updates to travel and coronavirus protocols of late. Travellers coming from certain African countries will not be accepted for travel into the UAE as of November 29 until further notice.

The updated coronavirus protocols impact all travellers “originating from, or transiting from” seven countries in Africa: Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Similarly, the UAE updated entry procedures for neighbouring countries. From November 23, travellers vaccinated with UAE-approved shots and booster jabs must present a negative PCR test that does not exceed 14 days to enter land borders. Additionally, they must take a PCR test on the sixth day of entry, if their stay is for six consecutive days or more.

It was also announced on November 28 that the United Arab Emirates approved COVID-19 booster shots for all fully vaccinated adults who received full doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Sputnik vaccines six months ago, according to the Ministry of Health and Prevention. The booster jabs were previously available for front-line workers and those who met certain requirements, such as individuals with pre-existing conditions.

The UAE moved up to the top spot in Bloomberg’s COVID Resilience Ranking in the recent update. It previously ranked third.
