Everything you need to know about Yas Bay Waterfront’s opening

Spoiler: it’s going to be pretty special

Yas Bay is Abu Dhabi’s one-of-a-kind Dhs12 billion waterfront destination nestled south of Yas Island, and it’s promising to be the capital’s premier waterfront destination. Everyone in Abu Dhabi has been eagerly awaiting the launch, and now the official opening of Yas Bay Waterfront was on December 1.

Some elements are already open, with the Etihad Arena already an arena of choice for global names in UFC and comedy, while others plans we’ve been patiently waiting to come to fruition.

Now and in the future, Yas Bay will be a buzzing space to visit whether you live.

Here’s our guide to everything you need to know about Yas Bay.

What is Yas Bay?

In a nutshell, the Yas Bay masterplan comprises a pier, two luxury hotels backing onto the water, more than 20 food and beverage outlets, a boutique cinema, a beach club (not any beach club, a floating one), an entrepreneurial creative zone, residences, (there’s a community of schools, amenities, parks, skatepark and mosques), and an 18,000 capacity multi-purpose arena. That makes Yas Bay kind of a big deal – hence this guide (you’re welcome). Yas Bay breaks down into three districts: The Waterfront, residences and a dedicated media zone.

Where is Yas Bay?

As you may have already deduced, Yas Bay is situated on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

Is Etihad Arena at Yas Bay?

Have you not been paying attention? Expect huge line-ups, all the biggest names in entertainment, music and sports as Yas Bay development continues to grow, attracting more and more attention to this colossal arena. Named the Sustainable Building Design of the Year, at the MENA Green Buildings Awards 2018, this stunning example of architecture is surrounded by 35,000 sqm of waterfront development.

What restaurants be at Yas Bay, The Waterfront?

The Waterfront will not only be a sight to behold, it will also be a vibrant entertainment and food district with world-class grub and Dubai favourites. Foodies of Abu Dhabi, you’ll need to add these to your bucket list: Siddharta Lounge by Buddah Bar, Asia Asia, Akiba Dori, La Carnita, The Lighthouse, Hunter and Barrell, Lock Stock and Barrel, Paradiso, Bushra, Emmy Squared, Zeera and family-friendly venue The Central. By the time the ribbon is cut at Yas Bay proper, it will be home to hotels, cafés, bars and restaurants, a beach club and, of course, Etihad Arena.

Can I live at Yas Bay?

You certainly can, and this contemporary residential community offers quite the lifestyle. Find apartments and villas backing on to the Arabian Sea, 19 parks, two schools, three mosques and community retail all within walking distance of The Waterfront. We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves and call Yas Bay dream living, but don’t wake us up any time soon.

What is the Yas Bay Media Zone?

Designed for the busy creatives of today, Yas Bay Media Zone is expected to attract more than 10,000 media and entertainment professionals to the region. This new Media Zone will empower media-types and entrepreneurs by providing an innovative space to collaborate and create.

How many hotels will be at Yas Bay?

Welcoming residents and international guests, there are two waterfront hotels outlined for Yas Bay, and Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island is the first to open its doors. Just a short walk from Etihad Arena, this hotel backing on to the crystal blue Arabian Sea waters has 546 keys, conference centres and several places to fill your hungry bellies. You’ll want to book yourself into Osmo Lounge and Bar for sundowners, it’s a mesmerising spot for sunset sips, perfect to unwind at the end of the day.

We’re glad you asked, because the answer is so much. Yas Island is filled with so many activities to keep the kids entertained, and big kids.
