There will be direct buses from Abu Dhabi to Dubai’s EXPO 2020 site

The Integrated Transport Centre wants to improve connectivity between the two cities

In August we told you about a new bus route connecting Abu Dhabi and Dubai

The bus, from Mussafah, will travel through Abu Dhabi International Airport and on to Ibn Battuta.

But there will also be another to the EXPO 2020 centre and one from Al Ain, as reported in our sister title Arabian Business

They report that Ateeq Mohammed Al Mazrouei, director of operations, public transport sector at the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), says: “There will be new lines from Abu Dhabi city, which will connect the Abu Dhabi International Airport to Ibn Battuta bus station and Expo 2020.

“One service will start from the Marina Mall [in Abu Dhabi], another from Madinat Zayed and the third one from the airport. There will be one service from Al Ain too.”

Al Mazrouei was speaking following the launch of the new hourly Mussafah to Ibn Battuta route (E102), which he says could be increased to a half-hourly frequency.

“Our operations team and the RTA will look into it,” he says. “Even the frequency of services on routes will change as per demand. Instead of an hourly service, it may be brought down to 30 minutes.”

Mazrouei also said there may be a chance to operate a direct bus from Abu Dhabi to Fujairah in the future.

“There is no direct bus from here to Fujairah. But there is a service from Dubai to Fujairah. So anyone from Abu Dhabi who wishes to reach Fujairah can take a bus to Dubai and travel from there. But maybe in the future, we will have a direct bus to Fujairah. We are working with the RTA for the benefit of all the emirates,” he adds.

There have been other changes to the buses in Abu Dhabi, too, including the introduction of free Wi-Fi, two new express bus routes, and more smaller buses to encourage people to use more public transport.

Some of the changes have been brought in due to the introducton of road tolls in October. Here‘s how you go about registering.
