Abu Dhabi announces updated entry rules for travellers within UAE

New rules for vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers start this week

Abu Dhabi has announced a new border change for those travelling from within the UAE. Effective Thursday December 30, vaccinated people entering the capital will need to show green status on the Al Hosn app to enter Abu Dhabi.

Those who are unvaccinated and wish to enter the emirate from within the UAE, must present a negative PCR test result received within 96 hours. As per the most recent Abu Dhabi COVID-19 update, those who are vaccinated just need to present green status on the Al Hosn app. Green pass validity is currently 14 days, meaning people need a negative PCR test at least every two weeks to maintain green status on the Al Hosn app.

The Abu Dhabi COVID-19 protocol update was announced by the Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee (NCEMA) on Tuesday December 28.

In addition to the green pass and PCR tests,  EDE scanners will continue to be used at the capital’s borders to detect potential COVID-19 cases. People with potentially positive COVID-19 cases will be referred to an on-site testing centre and given a free antigen test, with results available within 20 minutes.

In the last Abu Dhabi COVID-19 border update, commuters had to be scanned with the EDE scanners at entry borders from December 19. Curious about how do EDE scanners work? The EDE scanners use advanced technology to rapidly detect potential COVID cases, but without storing personal information.

In the previous update, a green pass and negative PCR test were not required.

From Thu Dec 30, 2021.
