Abu Dhabi updates COVID-19 measures for events

PCR testing and reducing event capacity are part of the latest coronavirus update in the capital

Abu Dhabi has tightened COVID-19 restrictions. The Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee (ADCMC) has updated measures for indoor and outdoor social events and family celebrations. The enhanced COVID-19 measures come into effect on Monday December 27.

Event capacity will be reduced to 60 percent capacity for venues hosting events such as weddings and funerals. Additionally, the maximum number of people allowed at indoor events must not exceed 50 people. At outdoor events and open-air activities, the Abu Dhabi COVID-19 regulations state there should not be more than 150 people.

Looking to have a gathering at home? Social events at home should not host more than 30 people.

Event capacity in Abu Dhabi was previously set at 80 percent.

Wonder what the latest green status update in the capital is? As part of the most recent COVID-19 update in Abu Dhabi, those attending events will need green status on the Al Hosn app as well as a negative PCR test that is not more than 48 hours old.

Those attending indoor and outdoor events should also adhere to all coronavirus protocols including wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.

In the previous Abu Dhabi COVID-19 protocol update for events, the PCR test validity was 96 hours.

The new Abu Dhabi coronavirus protocols are about enhancing precautionary measures to protect public health and they were announced on Sunday December 26. Additionally, the Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee will increase inspection and monitoring to ensure the new COVID-19 mandates are being followed.

ADMC is encouraging the public to continue to adhering to precautionary COVID-19 measures to keep everyone safe, including wearing a mask at all times that covers the nose and mouth, avoiding crowded places, maintaining a physical distance of at least two metres a part, and regularly washing and sanitising hands. The Committee is also encouraging people to get vaccinated and get their booster shots when eligible.

Previously, the UAE announced COVID-19 measures for New Year’s Eve and Christmas.

Earlier in December, Abu Dhabi announced a massive border change for those travelling from within the UAE. From Sunday December 19, people entering Abu Dhabi from within the United Arab Emirates are scanned with EDE scanners at entry points. The EDE scanners are being used to detect potential COVID-19 cases. In such potentially positive COVID-19 cases, individuals will be referred to an on-site testing centre and given a free antigen test. The COVID-19 tests results will be available within 20 minutes.

Abu Dhabi’s recent COVID-19 protocol updates are part of the capital’s, as well as the wider UAE’s, proactive response to the coronavirus pandemic, and include achieving high vaccination rates, boosting testing and putting travel restrictions in place. The updated measures come into effect in light of concerns with the Omicron variant around the world.

On Friday December 24, Abu Dhabi updated its green list for travellers. Several countries were removed from the list so travellers coming from those destinations will now have to quarantine.

From Mon Dec 27.
