Quarantine rules for some foreign travellers arriving in Abu Dhabi could be scrapped from Tuesday July 1 under fresh proposals.
As of now, new arrivals are required to quarantine for ten days after touching down in the capital.
Exemptions are in place for those flying in from the emirate’s green list of approved countries, which comprises 23 nations, including Australia, the UK, China, Japan and Saudi Arabia. (For the full list click here).
But that could change in around six weeks’ time, according to a senior tourism official speaking at the ongoing Arabian Travel Market exhibition, a platform for inbound and outbound tourism professionals in the Middle East.
Time Out’s sister publication, Arabian Business, reports that a new system could operate in similar fashion to the one implemented in Dubai, and PCR protocol will be different for high-risk and low-risk destinations.
The spokesperson told Arabian Business that Abu Dhabi plans to expand its green list of countries in the build up to any potential rule changes, and those coming from countries with higher infection rate would have to undergo two tests – one before they travel and another upon their arrival in Abu Dhabi.
