Go back to the ’90s in the UAE at this new art exhibition

Zemanna at Manarat Al Saadiyat is all about this iconic decade

Looking to go back to the ’90s? Zemanna at Manarat Al Saadiyat is a multi-room exhibition that explores life in the UAE during that iconic decade.

If you love arts, culture, all things ’90s and UAE history, you’re likely going to be into the upcoming exhibition at Manarat Al Saadiyat. Zemanna is all about life in the ’90s; the decade is seen as the beginning of major change for the country’s population and is characterised by street vendors and colourful neon-lit dukkan signs. Is anyone else feeling nostalgic?

Zemanna opens on Monday January 17 and tickets are Dhs45 per person. It will be running until Monday June 13, so there will be plenty of time to see it.

The exhibition showcases nine commissioned interactive installations that address the remnants of the 1990s and how they contribute to the present time.

The participating artists are: Afra Al Dhaheri; Aisha Al Ahmadi; Alaa Edris; Fadel Al Mheiri; Ghada Al Sayegh and Maytha Al Shamsi; Jumairy; Mays Albaik; Rawdha Al Ketbi; and Sree. They have created a multi-room experience to answer the question of: What led to the 1990s, and what did the 1990s lead to? Put on your bucket hat, and head over.

After more art in the UAE? The Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival is opening on Friday February 4 and it looks huge.

You can expect to see everything from fine art and photography to sculpture, film and poetry. This year’s theme is “The Journey” and artists have been asked to think about the theme through the lens of ancestry, migration, national identity and personal growth.

Sounds like we’re in for loads of art in the near future.
