See free modern dance at the Louvre Abu Dhabi

The performance will feature three distinct contemporary dance solos

Ready to see modern dance at the Louvre Abu Dhabi? The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is bringing a star contemporary dancer to Abu Dhabi in one of the city’s most iconic locations.

The performance will include three distinct solos performed by Aakash Odedra: a dancer and choreographer who has created pieces for the likes of Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the closing of the London Cultural Olympiad.

The performance is happening on Wednesday February 23 at 7.30pm at The Louvre Abu Dhabi and is part of the Louvre’s free admission LATES series.

This modern dance at the Louvre event will be the first time these solo pieces are performed in the UAE and you don’t want to miss it.

The three solo pieces (Echoes, CUT and Constellations) are choreographed by world-renowned choreographers: Aditi Mangaldas, Russell Maliphant, and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. Each dance explores different styles using Odedra’s background in traditional Indian dance styles, kathak and bharatanatyam, to create a new kind of dance.

The first dance, Echoes, is choreographed by Aditi Mangaldas and uses bells to break from tradition and ritual. CUT is choreographed by Russell Maliphant and uses kathak and bharatnatyam dance dynamics to create a new kind of dance. Constellations is choreographed by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and plays with themes of thunder and lightning.

The performances are presented in partnership with UK-UAE Cultural Professionals Connect, which is a grant programme funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. The performances are delivered in partnership with the British Council in the UAE.
