UAE Ramadan 2022 COVID guidelines announced

The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority shared the protocols ahead of the start of Ramadan

UAE Ramadan COVID-19 guidelines have been revealed ahead of the start of Ramadan 2022. The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) shared the COVID protocols on Wednesday March 30, before Ramadan begins on Friday April 2, and they pertain to prayer halls, social distancing, water distribution and face masks.

The latest COVID rules for the UAE for Ramadan stipulate changing the alignment of worshipers to be in a straight, vertical shape as opposed to an X-shape to better manage entry and exiting. Furthermore, residency timings for the five daily prayers will be restored to pre-pandemic levels.

As per the previous UAE COVID update, the Qur’an can be distributed in mosques and chapels again, provided that they are sterilised after use.

Social distancing still applies for the UAE Ramadan COVID-19 guides: a distance of one metre between worshipers must be maintained. Tarawih prayers will last for 45 minutes throughout Ramadan, and Tahajjud prayers will not exceed 45 minutes in the last ten days.

Under the recent UAE Ramadan COVID-19 guidelines, women’s prayer halls will return to normal during Ramadan 2022. Furthermore, daily mosque lessons after afternoon or evening prayers will resume, along with lectures of the guests of His Highness the President of the State in mosques.

NCEMA also stated that Ramadan 2022 COVID rues include being able to distribute drinking water to worshipers, provided that it is canned.

Another key point of the UAE Ramadan 2022 COVID guidelines include volunteers must be present to monitor all precautionary measures in prayer halls, “such as wearing masks, commitment to using personal or single-use prayer mats, and adhering to previously announced measures”.

Additionally, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority encouraged people to continue to follow all other COVID guidelines for safety, including physical distancing, using a personal or single-use prayer mat, avoiding gatherings as much as possible and wearing face masks.

NCEMA stated: “In the past two years, we have witnessed an acceptable commitment from society and a commendable response to the precautionary measures, and we hope that commitment and awareness will continue this year in light of the various waves the world is witnessing.”

In March, NCEMA had announced the return of iftar tents for Ramadan 2022. It marked the first time that iftar tents have been permitted in the United Arab Emirates since the coronavirus pandemic began in 2020. The authority stated that iftar tents could be set up with certain details, provided they ensure public safety and are in line with current COVID-19 guidelines in the UAE.
